The natural
beauty of this part of the coast is highlighted by the well-maintained
sandy beaches, a narrow, rocky cove with a harbour and a bizarre
volcanic coastline of truly gigantic cliffs. Hotels, apartments and
chalets line the streets that rise above the seafront.
You don’t, however, get the feeling that you’re in a large town, as the
buildings are mostly low-rise and much use has been made of the
traditional Canarian features of dark woodwork and red roof tiles. This
is the south-west of Tenerife, where in recent years the main towns of
Playa de la Arena, Puerto de Santiago and Los Gigantes have grown and
merged into one. This area is best loved for one main reason: the sun
shines here nearly every day. You can easily expect 360 sunny days a
year with average midday temperatures of around 25º to 28ºC.
In
Playa de la Arena the main attraction is the lovely and well-kept sandy
beach. Those in the know would say that it is one of the best in
Tenerife. It has been awarded the EU Blue Flag for cleanliness and good
facilities. The beach is located in a large cove, framed by bizarre
rocky cliffs. There are beach showers, sunloungers, bars, small
restaurants, a lifeguard service and much more besides. The promenade
that runs along the coast begins just above the beach.
This is a first rate holiday house, "Casa Lindamar" lies just 10 metres from the sea. No traffic noise, aircraft noise or similar disturbances will spoil your peaceful stay here. The only sound to be heard is the sound of the waves on the shore... Despite this being a quiet location, it’s only a few steps from the "Arenas Negras" black sandy beach, as well as restaurants and supermarkets.
Other plus points: you can see whales and dolphins with the naked eye from the balcony or the terrace and you watch the yachts and power-boats on their way over to Los Gigantes. To the east, you have a view towards Playa San Juan and west towards the cliffs of Los Gigantes. We shouldn’t forget to mention the island of La Gomera, lying just opposite, as well as the wonderful sunsets that you can enjoy from the balcony or the terrace.
The house has a total internal area of some 70 m² on two floors. There is also a roof terrace of approximately 35 m², where you can sunbathe in complete seclusion, as well as two balconies. The welcoming interior of the house features a maritime theme throughout. In the living room there is a comfortable suite of a sofa and two armchairs. The flat screen TV is connected to a satellite system for the reception of major international radio and TV channels. There is also a radio and an iPod compatible music system. There are four chairs at the dining table. On the balcony there are two further chairs and a small table.
The kitchen has been modelled on a ship’s galley and is equipped with all necessary utensils and electrical appliances, including a coffee maker, toaster, induction ceramic hob, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric grill, kettle and a juicer. There is also a Miele washing machine fitted.
The bathroom has a shower (hand-set and rain shower), W/C, twin washbasins and a hairdryer as well as a heated towel rail and infra-red heating.
The first bedroom has a bed of 180 x 190 cm with two original Tempur comfortable mattresses of 90 x 190 cm each, and Tempur pillows. There is also a second flat screen TV here, also with satellite connection. From the balcony it’s just three steps to the pool. The second bedroom has a divan bed of 135 x 180 cm (one mattress).
The living room and the larger bedroom have ceiling fans that can be operated by remote control. Hand towels, bath towels, tea towels and bed linen are provided. For bookworms, there is a large literary collection, on everything to do with Tenerife.
On the roof terrace there are two sun loungers, two deck chairs and a further dining table with four chairs. For romantic evenings, it is possible to adjust the lighting level on the terrace. A parasol provides some shade. There is a small outside kitchen fitted with an electric stove, an electric Teflon grill, a washbasin and a small fridge.
The pool is more or less circular, with a diameter of around 9 m and a depth of 1.25m. There is also a small paddling pool for children. The pool is heated and almost constantly at a temperature of 28ºC.
As a courtesy to future guests, "Casa Lindamar" is a non-smoking property. Smoking is permitted on the terrace.
Journey times:
You really don’t need to hire a car here. Thanks to the central location of the house, you can easily walk everywhere. Beach, cafés, restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies, banks, etc., everything is within walking distance. For journeys further afield, Tenerife’s bus service is really quite efficient and the nearest bus stop is just a few minutes away.
