The town of Alcalá lies in the sunny South-west of Tenerife and is one of the last few refuges on the West coast in which the old fishermen sit undisturbed on the wall and spin sailors´ yarns of gigantic cuttlefish once caught, or where stressed and tired continental holiday-makers paddle at the water’s edge and dream of the easy life in the South.
A country road divides the fishing town. Above the centre of the town there are newer and anonymous houses, but below in the quieter old quarter, fishermen’s cottages nestle with houses in still unspoiled, picturesque corners of old streets, and the contemplative Plaza with its park benches lies under big old trees. Weird lava formations down at the Atlantic coast, the small harbour, narrow lanes and footpaths, small shops of all kinds, bars and fish restaurants with freshly caught fish provide a taste of the real, true character of the island.
The small "El Navio" rural hotel has 12 double rooms and lies in the middle of a banana plantation in the sunny South-west of Tenerife. There is no mass tourism or hectic bustle here. The owners have done much work on it to create an oasis of relaxation in green surroundings. Everything that belongs to this hotel has been put together with much attention to detail. The reception has been furnished like a big, comfortable sitting room. In the breakfast area you are attended personally and can prepare well for the long day ahead. The pictures and many of the fittings in the rooms have been made by hand and give a good cross-section of Canarian carpenters´ skills.
Each double room has a large double bed (160/180 x 200cm) with comfortable mattresses, a television set (Spanish channels), a safe, a phone and a minibar. In the bathroom there is a shower, washbasin and a WC. In addition, every double room its own, large South-west facing terrace. Sun and a sea-view are, therefore, guaranteed. Guests will find two sun loungers and other pieces of garden furniture on the terraces. A washing machine is available. The swimming pool with its wonderful sun terrace will be available for use by guests from the end of October, 2007.
The Hotel "El Navio" is sure to remain in guests´ memories long after they have stayed, as here you feel relaxed straight away and can enjoy the rest, the sun and, from the terrace, the marvellous view of the sea and the island opposite, "La Gomera". The hotel is an ideal starting point for walks and island excursions. It’s about 1 km into Alcalá town. There you will find a beach, restaurants and supermarkets.
