In the green North-west of the island lies the principal town of Icod de los Vinos. A visit to Icod is a must for any holiday-maker in Tenerife, or at least, for those who are spending their holidays on the North-west side. The magnet for visitors is not so much the wine, which has been so popular for many centuries and which is grown in this area, but rather the "Drago milenario", the supposedly thousand-year-old dragon tree. It is the oldest and biggest dragon tree of the world, an impressive specimen and one of the survivors of the ice age.
But in Icod there is still something even more worth seeing: the shopping street of Calle San Sebastian which is of particular architectural interest, as it features a cross-section of all centuries. The town hall dates from the 18th century and the church of San Augustin, from the 17th century. The old country houses with their inner courtyards are always interesting, time and again. Or why not visit one of many bodegas and try the wine that is produced all around Icod.
Two typically Canarian holiday houses which were completely renovated to modern standards between 2001 and 2004 are located on the Finca "Fernandel". The old charm of the country houses has been preserved by careful renovation. Unfortunately, there are no longer many houses of this kind. It is really something special to live in one or to rent one for a holiday. The Finca lies away from mass-tourism, in marvellous position just 90m above the sea, which is within easy reach, and where you can enjoy wonderful views of the Atlantic. You can walk to the sandy beach at San Marco in about 15 minutes.
The owner's family, which runs a large banana plantation, lives about 200 metres away, and are pleased to be close by their guests and will help and advise. If you wish, they will give you a guided tour of the plantation and you will discover the interesting facts of banana cultivation and learn more about the land and its people.
Two houses (Casa Camillo and Casa Pepone) were built beside one another and, in both cases, have separate entrances and secluded terraces. Garden furniture, sun-loungers and parasols are provided on the terraces. In each house there is satellite TV with international digital radio and TV channels.
Towels, bath towels, tea towels and bed linen are provided in plenty. Of course, there is also a washing machine in each house. A cot and high-chair are ready for the smallest guests.
A special place for all guests at the finca to meet was created in the form of a swimming pool, set apart, in a particularly beautiful and sunny location. The shared-use pool, 8m x 5m, has a partly covered outdoor kitchen and gas barbecue, large and spacious terraces with sun loungers for relaxation. The pool has shallow steps which allow those with small children or perhaps a disability to enter the pool easily.
The location of the house is far enough away that you can always find that peaceful spot that you´re looking for. Noise from the pool doesn´t carry that far. If you´re worried about missing major sporting events, look no further, you can enjoy them in a separate room on a projector TV with satellite connection, all in large format,
The South Airport is about 1.5 hours away, and the North Airport, about 45 minutes. Restaurants, supermarkets, banks, a pharmacy and shops etc. are only about 1 km away in the centre of Icod de Los Vinos.
Casa Camillo has a large sitting room with high wooden ceilings. A breakfast bar separates the kitchen space. There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed (2 mattresses of 90 x 190cm), the other with two single beds (each one 80 x 190cm), which can be pushed together. There are two bathrooms, one with a bath and the other with a shower. The whole living space comprises about 110m².
