The north coast of Tenerife features high and precipitous cliffs. Beside the steep coast lies the cultivated, rather smart village of El Sauzal with its pleasant plaza and abundance of floral decorations. High up, on top on the cliffs there are several attractive miradores (panoramic viewpoints).
We should also give the wine museum in El Sauzal a special mention. The
building itself, a 17th century former farmhouse, is worthy of a visit.
In the inner courtyard, you will find an old wine press. In the
separate exhibition rooms, there is information about the history of
viticulture in Tenerife.
You can, of course, partake in wine tasting or buy your favourite selected wine immediately there and then.
The villa Diamante lies in Puntillo del Sol which is divided between the municipalities of La Matanza and El Sauzal. Between both places, below the highway, there are four residential areas, namely Primavera, Puertito, Los Naranjeros, and Puntillo del Sol. Puntillo del Sol (“little point of the sun”) is the place on the north coast of Tenerife with the highest annual average hours of sunshine.
La Matanza is a relatively large and lively place with numerous shopping facilities, a big supermarket, cafés, bars, restaurants, and a wonderful old church. Above the town there is a vast tract of forest, perfect for walking for several hours among marvellous pines and eucalyptus trees. At the weekends, the farmers´ market in La Matanza gives you the opportunity to buy fresh fruit, vegetables, wine and other products offered by local farmers.
El Sauzal is a rather smart village of with its pleasant plaza and abundance of floral decorations. We should also give the wine museum in El Sauzal a special mention. At his potter’s wheel, and with lightning-speed, he turns out domestic ceramics, like plates, cups, vases and pots. There are also many supermarkets and restaurants in the village. At this point, we would mention just two very good restaurants: Los Angeles and La Ermita. As well as Canarian and international culinary delights, there is also a large selection of fish specialities.
