In the green north-west of the Island lies the county town of "Icod de los Vinos". A visit to Icod is a must for every holidaymaker in Tenerife, or at least for those on the north-west side of the Island.
The principal attraction over the centuries hasn´t been the popular wine that is produced in the area, but the “Drago Milenario”, the allegedly thousand-year-old Dragon Tree. It is the largest and oldest dragon tree in the world, a spectacular plant and one of the survivors of the Ice Age. There is much more besides that´s worth seeing in Icod: the shopping street Calle San Sebastian, for example, is an architectural cross-section through the centuries.
The town hall is 18th century and the church of San Augustin is 17th century. More interesting still are the country houses with their inner courtyards. You can also visit one of the many bodegas and try some of the wines that are produced in and around Icod.
The holiday property “Casa Boretto” is a typical Canarian rustic house which has only this year been completely renovated. It was important to the owners when lovingly renovating the house that it should retain its old original charm. Unfortunately, few houses of this style are still standing. To live here, or to spend your holidays here is something rather special. The house is situated quite apart from mass tourism, and is yet just 90 m or so above sea-level. In our view, the most important point worth noting about this property is the peace and tranquility of its location, and the banana plantations and many green and flowering plants that surround the house. By car, you´ll be on the sandy beach at San Marcos in only 2 minutes.
The family that owns the house also runs a large banana plantation and lives nearby in the grounds. They´re quite happy to help guests out with anything that they might want to know. If you´re interested, they´ll even take you on a tour of the plantation and tell you all about growing bananas, giving you the opportunity to learn something about the people and local culture.
The house has a total internal area of some 70 m², which includes a lounge, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom with shower.
The TV is connected to a satellite service and receives major international radio and television channels in digital quality. Hand towels, bath towels, tea-towels and bed-linen are all provided for you. Beach towels are provided, and, of course, a washing machine too. The double bed (180 x 190 cm with 2 mattresses 90 x 190 cm) has comfortable mattresses. There is large wardrobe, big enough to take care of all your clothes even on a longer stay.
The kitchen is fitted to a modern standard: four-ring cooker, coffee machine, toaster, fridge-freezer, and much more.
Another special feature is the small winery that forms part of the house, and also the water supply that comes from a natural spring, and is not chlorinated.
Outisde, you´ll find a sunny south-facing area where you can sit. Enjoy the peace and quiet of your lush green “lounge”, where you can sit out under a roof and yet be surrounded by banana plants. You can park your car right next to the house.
A special place for all guests at the finca to meet was created in the form of a swimming pool, set apart, in a particularly beautiful and sunny location. The shared-use pool, 8m x 5m, has a partly covered outdoor kitchen and gas barbecue, large and spacious terraces with sun loungers for relaxation. The pool has shallow steps which allow those with small children or perhaps a disability to enter the pool easily. The location of the house is far enough away that you can always find that peaceful spot that you´re looking for. Noise from the pool doesn´t carry that far. If you´re worried about missing major sporting events, look no further, you can enjoy them in a separate room on a projector TV with satellite connection, all in large format,
The South Airport is about 1 ½ hours drive away, and the North Airport about 45 minutes. Restaurants and supermarkets, banks, pharmacies and so on are all about 1 km away in the centre of Icod de los Vinos.
